KAMAZ Cancels Its Planned Four-Day Workweek for August–October as Orders Grow
Summary: KAMAZ (ПАО «КАМАЗ»), Russia's largest truck maker, has cancelled the transition to a part-time four-day workweek that had been planned for August through October 2026, the company's press service said on Monday, July 27. The decision was taken by Chief Executive Sergey Kogogin (Сергей Когогин) after order volumes for the coming months grew and the production plan was revised upward.
The order revoked
The press service announced on Monday that the company was scrapping the move to a shortened workweek scheduled for August–October 2026. The order introducing the part-time four-day week for that period had been signed back in March 2026. By the end of July, management concluded that production volumes were sufficient for a full five-day schedule.
"Volumes are sufficient to work under a five-day workweek. The average daily production pace will be 160 machine sets," the company's statement said.
Why the decision was reversed
KAMAZ explained that the cancellation became possible thanks to growth in the order book for the coming months and an upward correction of the production plan. Three factors contributed to the positive dynamics, according to the company:
- Sales development measures taken by the manufacturer.
- The expansion of the model range of K5-generation trucks.
- The stabilization of the Russian truck market.
The summer timeline
- March 2026 — the order introducing a part-time four-day workweek for August–October is signed.
- July 13–26 — the planned corporate vacation.
- Monday, July 27 — truck production resumes after the vacation, and the press service announces the cancellation of the four-day schedule.
What the cancellation changes
A part-time workweek is a way for an industrial employer to adapt to weak demand without layoffs: employees work fewer days and receive pay in proportion to time worked. Revoking the March order restores the full five-day schedule for the very months it had designated for shortened operation — August through October. For the plant, that means a stable conveyor rhythm and a confirmed pace of 160 machine sets a day; for suppliers and logistics, a predictable production calendar after the corporate vacation.
The company attributes the improvement to demand-side factors — sales measures, the wider K5 range and a stabilizing truck market — rather than to a one-off adjustment of the plan. The message to the workforce and to the supply chain is that the shortened regime prepared in spring is no longer needed for the autumn months.
